Money MOT is run by Dan Smith, an independent developer trading as Vakkum, who is the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: hello@vakkum.com.
What we use, and why
- Your postcode and the home you pick. Used to run your check. We look your postcode up on public sources (the Valuation Office Agency band list, HM Land Registry and postcodes.io). We don't keep a record of your check. A postcode's public data is cached for up to 7 days to keep checks fast.
- Bank statements (Subscription leaks) and your contracts (Renewal radar). Read and stored only in your own browser. They are never sent to us or anyone else.
- Flight, parking and tax answers. Worked out in your browser and not stored by us.
- Anonymous results. For each check we record only which tool, the verdict and the £ figure it found, with no address, email or other input, so we can report honestly what the checks find. Kept for 180 days.
- Your email, if you give it. Stored with the home you checked so we can send you your pack and news about Money MOT. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by emailing us. We keep it until you ask us to delete it.
- Payments. Handled by Stripe. We never see your card details. We keep Stripe's record of the payment for 6 years for tax purposes.
- Technical data. Your IP address is used briefly to stop abuse (rate limiting) and is not stored by us. Visit counts. Without cookies, we count page views with the page, your country, the site that linked you, any ad campaign tag and your device type, plus an anonymous ID made from your IP address and browser that changes every day, so we can count visitors without knowing who they are. Kept for 90 days. Advertising measurement (Meta pixel). Only if you choose "Accept" on our cookie bar, we load Meta's pixel, which sets cookies and tells Meta which pages you viewed, when you finished a check, started a checkout or bought something (with its price), so we can see which of our ads work. If you choose "No thanks" or ignore the bar, it never loads. To change your mind, clear this site's data in your browser and choose again.
Who we share it with
Cloudflare (hosting), Stripe (payments), Telegram (which sends us a private notice of each sale and sign-up, with the email address for sign-ups) and, if switched on, Meta (ad measurement). We don't sell your data.
